Muhammara Dip

My Mama's Mama's Muhammara's story begins in the seaside city of Latakia - an ancient, former Roman and Phoenician metropolis founded in the 4th centurty B.C. that is now in modern day Syria. As a young boy, the co-founder learned to make this ancient Middle Eastern dish with his mother and grandmother. The word “muhammara” comes word “ahmar,” Arabic for “red", getting its beautiful deep red coloring from a mix of red peppers, pomegranate molasses and spices. 

Ingredients: Onion, red pepper paste (red pepper, salt), walnuts, pomegranate molasses (concentrated natural pomegranate juice, sugar), olive oil, cumin.
