History of Gin Workshop

October 10, 2024
5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

In this 90-minute workshop hosted by Baltimore Spirits Company, you'll uncover the fascinating evolution of gin, beginning with its roots in 17th-century Holland, where it was first distilled as a medicinal tonic. Learn how gin's early formulations relied on a blend of botanicals believed to have healing properties, such as juniper berries, which were known for their anti-inflammatory and diuretic effects.

Corey from BSC will guide you through the transformation of gin from a medicinal concoction to a popular spirit, highlighting how different herbs, spices, and botanicals have been used over time to create diverse flavors and styles. Discover the unique characteristics of ingredients like coriander, angelica root, and citrus peels, and understand how they contribute to gin's distinctive profile.

Participants will also explore the science behind gin distillation and how botanical combinations impact the final taste. You'll sample a curated selection of gins, each showcasing different botanical blends and historical techniques. This workshop offers a deep dive into the botanical artistry and medicinal history that has made gin a beloved spirit for centuries, perfect for anyone passionate about spirits, herbs, or natural remedies.
